Euro 2016 Review

Bonjour to all football fans once again.
So, since the Football fiesta in France came to an end and it was a really exciting tournament for fans around the globe, therefore, here is my take on some of the teams, their performances and the results. You all keep reading SAIKISITE for more awesome Blogs.
Feel free to comment your thoughts as well on the Euro 2016, and who you thought to be “the winner” of the tournament.

The Gainers:

Key Player: Cristiano Ronaldo

Although the Selecaos lost their talisman in the final after just 25mins, they showed the world that the team is not over-dependant on him and ultimately went on to win the trophy for him. Young talent in Renato Sanches came up in the Euro 2016 with standout players like Joao Mario, Raphael Guerreiro and Ricardo Quaresma. They didn’t have a pretty good group stage results but finally emerged as strong front-runners for the tournament. I didn’t see them more than semi-finalists, but still congratulations are due.

Key Player: Gareth Bale

The Welsh side was the best side in terms of teamwork and collective performances. Led in the front by the 6ft tall speedster Gareth Bale, the team worked in some great goals and went on a historic team up to the semi-finals in the Euro 2016. As the tournament progressed, this team developed more confident and defeated star-studded Belgium in the quarters. Chris Coleman’s side deserve every credit from the football fans for their football style, co-ordination and determination and this team deserves to grow more in the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

The Losers:

Key Player: Antoine Griezmann

The hosts were termed as favourites by a majority to win the cup on their home soil, repeating their performance as in Euro 2000 led by their present coach Didier Deschamps. Golden Boy Griezmann and star midfielder Dmitri Payet provided the team with positive results only to suffer defeat at the last hurdle. They outplayed the World Champions Germany in the semi-finals but unfortunately couldn’t finish off in style with their dominance in the final at Saint-Denis. Paul Pogba showed some glimpses of relief for the team in the tournament who maybe is on the way to become the most expensive footballer, which for me is something he still needs to strongly establish.

Key Player: Toni Kroos

Die Mannschaft, the World Champions, topped their group quite easily and had a pretty easy match in the round of 16 against Slovakia until they met Italy in the quarters where it took 18 penalties in the shootout to decide the winner. They ultimately lost to the hosts in a match where they dominated possession just like Barcelona. But two big mistakes led to their disadvantage and wrapped up their tournament. The rise of young boys in Joshua Kimmich and Jonas Hector was a good sign for the Germans. Many would say they lost out to luck in the Euro 2016, many would oppose that thought but the world champions were second favourites after hosts France to win back to back trophies.

The Surprise Package :

Key Player: Gylfi Sigurdsson

The Euro debutants came second in their qualifying group ahead of Turkey and Netherlands, drew their first two group matches and snatched a last minute victory against Austria to qualify as runner-ups in Group F. They then went on to beat England with a great comeback after being a goal down early in the tie in the Euro 2016. Their dream run was ended by the host nation but this team won a lot of hearts throughout this tournament. Without a much-experienced side at European level, yet their determination and teamwork helped them become a strong side and recipient of a hero’s welcome on their return to the country.

The Heartbreak :

Key Player: Gianluigi Buffon

At the start of the Euros, the Italians were not even considered as favourites to win the tournament due to their too defensive attitude and lack of an in-form striker up top. But Antonio Conte’s men showed signs of brilliance in their first two group matches, keeping clean sheets in both but surprisingly lost to Ireland. The defending champions, Spain lost to them in a match where every department of Italy was perfect. It was unfortunate for them to lose out to the Germany in the penalty shootout but the back-four of Chiellini. Bonucci, Barzagli and Buffon weren’t easy for teams to break down. They turned themselves strong favourites and that’s a good sign for the future tournaments.
I hope you like it guys and once again do share your thoughts in the comment section about the article and how your team fared in the Euro 2016. Keep Reading SAIKISITE.
