Robert Downey Jr. indulged himself into drugs when he was only SIX years old and he got addicted to it when he was just EIGHT. His drug-related problems increased in the year 1996 to 2001 leading to imprisonment and drug arrest in the year 2000 and 2001 and as a result his entire career got screwed and he got fired from his then ongoing TV series “Ally McBeal” but after that he started to rebuild his career and emerged clean in the year 2003.

He gave his voice to the soundtracks in his films like ‘Chaplin‘, ‘The Singing Detective‘ and ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang‘. His most commercially successful number has been his rendition of the 1973 Joni Mitchell song ‘River‘, which his character, Larry Paul in ‘Ally McBeal‘, performs in the episode ‘Tis the Season’.

Two of the Robert Downey’s films, ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Iron Man 3’, earned over $1 billion each. He was at the top of the Forbes list of Hollywood’s highest-paid actors with an estimated $75 million in earnings between June 2012 and June 2013.

He earned his first Oscar nomination for the Best Actor for his role as Charlie Chaplin in the movie ‘Chaplin‘ (1992), a role for which he learned how to play the violin and also learned how to play tennis and that too with his left-hand. However, he could not win even that year as Al Pacino won the award for ‘Scent of a Woman’.
Robert Downey Jr. is the first and, so far, the only actor to win the Golden Globe for portraying Sherlock Holmes. He also won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in ‘Ally McBeal’ in 2000.
