Criteria on which then ICC test rankings are made

The two teams playing the tournament are given points. these points are given on the basis of some mathematical formula. The given or the awarded points are then divided by the total number of matches played by those two teams and after this process, a ‘rating’ is given to the team. In the case of a draw, the team which is at a lower position will be benefitted at the expense of the team which is at the higher position by the rating.
A trophy called the ICC Test Championship mace is given by the ICC to the top most team in the ranking. When a new team comes at the top that mace is transferred to that team. There is a cash prize of $1 million for the team which is at the top of the rating table on 1st April, every year.
