Top 7 Contenders for the English Premier League 2016-17 title

The English Premier League is Back

Hello, readers !
A very happy new year to my fellow football fanatics. After a rather dull European Championships, club football in England is back. The managerial changes in the summer have only increased fans’ expectations. The title race this season promises to be the most competitive as it has been in the past few years with 5-6 teams looking like genuine contenders for the Premier League Championship.
So, here in this article of SAIKISITE, we take a look at the teams for whom anything but a top four spot will be considered a failure.

Manchester United

MANAGER: Jose Mourinho
KEY PLAYER: Paul Pogba

About the team

With Jose Mourinho overseeing the summer of the rebuild, the premier league trophy should return to Manchester courtesy of the Red Devils. Mourinho has promised success and nothing else should be expectable for the United fans. Big name signings of Eric Bailey, Henrikh Mkhitaryan Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the return of Paul Pogba that has made everyone believe that this season’s championship in United’s to lose.

Manchester City

MANAGER: Pep Guardiola
KEY PLAYER: Kevin De Bruyne

About the team

This season promises the beginning of a new era in the blue half of Manchester. Pep Guardiola knows that he has a huge task in his hands. City has a talented pool of players who will give their all to win the title again. With all that said, an enviable attacking midfield and a little defensive shake up should lead to City being in the title race till the very end.

MANAGER: Mauricio Pochettino
KEY PLAYER: Harry Kane

About the team

The young lions of the league roared loudly last season, I only expect them to get better. Mauricio Pochettino is a hard task master who has ingrained his ideas in the team’s mentality and some smart piece of business in the summer has only enhanced their chances while Harry Kane scores for fun, the real key to their success is undoubtedly their team work so expect them to make a splash in the league this season too.

MANAGER: Arsene Wenger
KEY PLAYER: Mesut Ozil

About the team

Like every other season we will get some silky smooth football from the Gooners but with a lack of top quality centre-forward, the responsibility of driving the team upwards falls squarely on its midfield with Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, and Alexis Sanchez being the most important cogs in their machine. But it should be added that 1 or 2 more signings and aversion of the annual injury crisis Arsenal will be near the top come May 2017.

MANAGER: Jurgen Klopp
KEY PLAYER: Phillipe Coutinho

About the team

Last season saw the revival of the Kop. The team played for the fans and this was the Jurgen Klopp effect that impressed every red fan. Now he has a full pre-season under his belt and a squad to his liking. This season they are expected to kick on and iron out their inconsistencies. For this, the little Brazilian Phillipe Coutinho certainly needs to shine as the star of the team this season for a spot in the top 4.

Leicester City

MANAGER: Claudio Ranieri
KEY PLAYER: Riyad Mahrez

About the team

The ultimate underdogs wrote the ultimate fairytale. For all the romantics out there no one expects them to repeat their last season’s heroics. The core of the team has remained intact and hence they should still remain a good competitor but don’t expect them to be near the top of the table but another season in Europe doesn’t seem outside Leicester’s grasps.

MANAGER: Antonio Conte
KEY PLAYER: Eden Hazard

About the team

While Leicester city was the fairytale of last season the Blues were the biggest roller coaster story, from champions in may 2015 to just above relegation places within 6 months time. The summer has not been eventful yet and 2-3 more signings would go a long way in lifting the mood at the bridge. Antonio Conte wants his players to work as hard as they can.  He will get the best out of them if they are willing to give into their manager’s ideas.

This season like every other will also have its fair share of dark horses who either break into the European places and/or spoil the big boys’ party. Look for teams like West Ham, Everton and Crystal Palace to act as the underdogs this season. But as we have all seen on the basis of last season keeping any expectations in this league is like trusting Fernando Torres to score in an open goal during his Chelsea days.
